Pet Sitting - FAQ
What do pet sitters do? Pet sitters offer an alternative to traditional pet boarding services. Instead of taking your pet to a kennel where they'll be in unfamiliar surroundings, a pet sitter comes to you, and takes care of your pets at your home. This allows your pet to remain in his or her own familiar and comfortable environment How is Crazy Critters Pet Care different from other pet sitters? When you hire Crazy Critters Pet Care to provide you with your pet sitting services, you are hiring a reputable company that is licensed, bonded and insured as well as a member of Pet Sitters International, Pet Sitters Associates, SNAPPS and the Chamber of Commerce. I am also the only pet sitter in Las Vegas that has been nominted for the prestigious title of PSI's Pet Sitter of the year. I have an impressive list of references from some very satisfied customers. Many pet sitting services also restrict their services to dogs and cats. However, I have many years of experience with birds, reptiles, ferrets and many other exotic animals. I am also a retired veterinary nurse. I have had extensive training in all aspects of pet care including emergency medical care, pet nutrition, exotic animal care, etc. Because Crazy Critters is owner-operated, you will always have the same pet sitter every time you travel.....ME!! As a Crazy Critters client, you will also receive a quarterly newsletter published by Crazy Critters. What made you decide to start Crazy Critters Pet Care? I have always known that I wanted to spend my life working with animals. Before I became a pet sitter I worked as a veterinary nurse. The last pet hospital I worked at had a kennel as well. A few times, the hospital was short kennel help so some of us nurse's filled in. I got to see first hand during this time just how miserable the pets were in the kennel. The dogs were constantly stressed and didn't eat well. And the cats were so terrified that just getting into their cages to give them fresh food and water was a struggle. I wanted to give pet owners another alternative to putting their pets in a kennel. Starting my own pet sitting business was one of the best decisions I have made in life so far. I love what I do for a living because not only do I get paid to play with animals all day, but I get to help people take better care of their pets and make life better for animals in so many wonderful ways. When my clients are away, I care for their pets the same way I would want a pet sitter to care for my pets! What do I need to do to start pet sitting service? The first step is to call the main office at 254-3795. At that time we will set up a time for me to come out to meet with you and your pets. At that time I will get instructions on how to care for your pets and home while you are away. It is very important that your pets are comfortable with the pet sitter you choose. So, I will spend time getting to know them to make sure they are comfortable with me being their new pet sitter. And while I am doing so, you can get to know me and ask me any questions you may have about my services. Is Crazy Critters available for times other than when I go on vacation? I am available anytime and for any reason you need your pets to be cared for. Whether you feel your pets needs some extra TLC while you are at work or you have concerns or questions about your pet, I can help with all your pet care needs.
If necessary, will Crazy Critters take my pets to their location? At this time I do not offer pet boarding. In the event that your dog or cat becomes ill, I can set up an extended stay at your residence to monitor your pets well being if needed.
How many times a day will Crazy Critters visit my pets? I can visit your home anywhere from 1-4 times per day. How many times a day I visit depends on your pet's individual needs. For cats and dogs with doggie doors, I normally recommend 1-2 visits per day. For dogs without a doggie door, I recommend 3-4 times per day. Cats can be visited every other day. However your cats must have at least 2 litterboxes, (or a self cleaning box), must be under 10 years old, free from illness and not require any medication. How long is each pet sitting visit? The length of each visit depends on the types of pets you have, the amount of care they require and how interested they are in playing or being loved. The average visit is 20-30 minutes. However if your pet is enjoying my company or my work has not been completed in this time frame, I will stay at your home for up to one hour or until my work is complete.
If I need it, can we arrange for longer or more frequent visits? Certainly. We can discuss your pets specific needs and work out a visit schedule that works best for them.
I don't go away that often...I just can't find time to walk my dog. Can you help? No Problem! One of Crazy Critters many featured services is a daily dog walking service that fits just this kind of situation. Do you charge extra for giving my pets medications or bringing in my mail? There are no hidden charges for giving medications or basic home care services. Everything is covered with the "per visit" fee as outlined in our pricing section. How am I billed for pet sitting services? I ask that you leave your payment for services upon departure for your trip. Should you forget however, I will either leave an invoice on my final visit or mail your invoice to you. Crazy Critters accept all forms of payments including Visa, MasterCard, Discover and payments by PayPal. For your convenience I can also keep your credit card number for future use. Do you accept reservations for pet sitting and dog walking over the phone? Yes. However first time clients must schedule a "get acquainted" consultation before your initial trip. Repeat customers may keep a key on file and simply call us to schedule your next trip. What is your cancellation policy? Because I understand how quickly things can change, generally speaking there is no fee to cancel an appointment. However, due to over whelming demand for pet sitting services over major holidays, I ask that you please give me at least 72 hours notice of cancellation so I may make those visits available for someone else. Do I need proof that my pet's vaccinations are up to date? Although I believe vaccinating your pets is an important part of preventative health care, I do not require that your pet be current on all their vaccines. Because your pets stay in their own home and are not exposed to other animals as they are in boarding facilities, there is little to no chance of them catching or transmitting a disease while under my care. However, for my own safety, I do require that all pets that are in good health and under the age of 9, be current on their rabies vaccine.
What happens if my pet becomes ill while I'm away? My first step would be to immediately attempt to contact you to determine what the best course of action would be. If you should be unavailable, I would handle the care of your pet as recommended by your regular veterinarian. Should you regular vet be unavailable, I will take your pet to my on call vet, Cheyenne West Animal Hospital, or the Animal Emergency Center (if after hours). Every attempt will be made to make sure your pets receive any medical care they need while you are away.
What if I run out of food while I'm away? I can purchase the same food your pet eats and charge you on your return home. What happens if you get ill or cannot make it to our home? For the most part, illness will not interrupt my ability to care for your pets. I have worked with food poisoning, the flu, a broken foot (over Christmas, nonetheless) and a number of other ailments. However, should I be involved in an accident or be unable to leave my home, my Husband would take over my work until I have recovered. If he in unavailable, I have built a strong relationship with many other Las Vegas pet sitters. So one of them would take over for me. I also carry an emergency card in my wallet stating that I am a pet sitter and I may have a large number of pets under my care. A list of names is on that card including the names and phone numbers of the back up pet sitting companies I use. Should I be involved in such a situation, you will be immediately contacted and kept informed of the status of my condition.
What days of the week is Crazy Critters available? I am available 365 days a year. I work all holidays without exceptions. In the rare case that I would I be going out of town myself, you will receive information in advance as to when I will be away and for how long. Should you need service while I am away, arrangements will be made to accommodate your needs.
Should I call before I leave to confirm? If your pet sitting arrangements were made prior to 2 weeks before your departure, I do ask that you do contact me a day or two before your you leave to make sure that your plans have not changed. Also, please give me a call to let me know that you got home on schedule. If you're going to be late, that's OK, but be sure to let me know so I can continue to keep an eye on your pets.
How are my keys and other security issues handled? Your house and mail keys as well as your personal file, are kept locked up when not in use. When at your home, I double check to make sure your house is secure before each time I leave. If you have an alarm system, I have no problems keeping it in use while you are away. If you feel uncomfortable giving out your personal code, you can call your monitoring company to have an additional code put into your system. I will provide you with a 4 digit code should you decide to have a code put in for my use.
How much notice do you need to schedule a visit? I ask that you contact me about a week in advance to set up a free consultation. Once you are established client, I can accommodate last minute arrangements if necessary
